- I survived. The weather was actually pretty bad, and so were the roads, but I didn't get lost or anything. So give me back my stuff.
- Daylight savings this weekend. Don't forget.
- I finally saw the first 20 minutes of Gladiator last night. I'm still not impressed with that movie as a whole. It's like The Last Samurai in its pointlessness.
- So my cousin was telling me that The Pianist was a good movie. I told him that was unlikely, and then asked him to name a single good movie that had Adrien Brody (sp?). He said "Angels in the Outfield." I had to concede the point.

- The Pianist
All good Brody movies.
Gladiator is in my top 5 of all time. It does start off a little like Last Samuri, but there's an ending that ties it together for me. I like the fact that it has epic scope, but is really just about the redemption/vengence of one man. Plus there's some kick butt fighting.
I disagree. The Gladiator is waaay different than the Samuri. They are similar in that they tell a sad story, I suppose, but it isn't even the same saddness. I think however that in order to appreciate it you need to sympathize with him, and you probably don't. (Like the Samuri)
Angels in the Outfield was ok, but not good enough to justify the watching of a movie called the pianist. The village was disappointing, and I've never seen the Jacket.
I'm not saying they are similar storywise. I'm saying they both have this pointless feeling of "well, nothing good came out of any of that" at the end of them. Normally, a movie that has a sad ending will still have an overall reason that made it worthwhile (like Braveheart; the Scots win their freedom). The Last Samurai, it's like "they all died because they don't like trains!? What idiots..." and Gladiator is the same doom and gloom at the end. Nothing good comes of it, and it's all pointless (imho).
I hear ya both.
Yeah, the end of Gladiator was Shakspearing in its tragidy, but the bad guy still died in a pool of his own blood. The girl was saved, and her son. The democracy of Rome died, but it was doomed anyway, much like our own. I'm also an unabashed Scott brothers fan, so their directing to me is art.
The Village is my favorite Shyamalan film, as compared to Lady in the Water which is by far his worse. I heard his new film is moving into post production now...though it's rated R, and spose' to be pretty dark.
Yeah, I forgot about the lady and her son being in danger. So there was at least a purpose to his death, which makes it better. Okay, I'll remove it from my "this is crappy like The Last Samurai" category. =D
I liked Signs best of Shyamalan's stuff, but Mel Gibson is the most completely awesome non-bigot ever, imo.
I liked Signs a lot. And I agree bout Gibson.
